Well as you all may know ive been working on restoring my 1973 johnson seahorse 20 hp. I have done a lot of work to it. I have great spark, I rebuilt the fuel pump, and the carb. I have taken a little "time out" from it because I was getting a little frustrated. Compression is 80 on both cyls (this is a cold reading). I cant keep the motor running long enough to get it up to temperature. Anyways, I believe I have a fuel related issue. I believe I am getting too much fuel. If I go out it will fire up for me and run for about 3 to 5 seconds at a time then die...I will try to fire it up right after that with little luck. If I pull the plugs (they appear pretty wet) let them dry and go back out in about 10 mins and go back out it will fire up for me again, but again only run for 3 to 5 seconds. I want to get this baby going and am very excited to do so. So what does this sound like to you guys? Where should I resume?

Re: Fuel related issues

If you have spark I'd start looking at float level. Sounds like the fuel level in the bowl is too high and you are pushing fuel up the emulsion tubes.

I don't see another place for the issue other than the carb if spark is good.
