Re: fuel recirculation

Number one, the fuel recirculation system is there only to improve idling. Its sole purpose is to evenly distribute puddled fuel at idle to prevent a cylinder from getting a slug of liquid fuel/oil and failing to fire.

If you are not having an intractable idling problem, the fuel recirculation system is working.

It is located on the electronic side of the block, just behind the parting line. It varied from year to year but yours should be two odd shaped plates about 5 inches long held with four bolts each.

SOME systems distributed the fuel/oil to bearings in the block but I don't think yours is one of them.

Correct Frank. I know Force had a bulletin out on replacing certain ones of them although I don't think it applies to his year. I replaced the black hose with Tygon hose the is fuel resistant but can be seen through. It is really interesting to watch how the fuel moves through it. I discovered my lower recirculation plate was getting clogged when I noticed fuel wasn't moving like it normally did through it during a routine inspection prior to a fishing trip.

See the attached pictures of the odd shaped (I call them dog bones) fuel circulation system.
There are screens I believe on the back sides that can become clogged.
Careful when re installing and don't over tighten the blots (not sure of the torque but I was warned by a very good source not to over tighten). I applied a thin film of black silicone when mine had a small leak around the gasket, fixed it right up.

Re: fuel recirculation

I should have mentioned the above pictures are of a 1989 125. The 1988 block that was rebuilt for me had slightly different "bones" and minus the hose.
