HI All

I want to replace my inadequete 25litre and 15litre fuel tanks with something more substantial. The 40litres onboard so far get me about 3 hours burn time ( with cargo). I was wanting to buy 2x45 ( or 50) litre tanks to increase the time on water- however, thats another 60kilos ( litres) of fuel added to the rear of the boat. Will adding a 100kilo fuel load adversly effect the stability/bouancy of the hull? What would you reccomend for a force 125 for a family 'fun day' in regards to fuel supply? We dont ski/tube etc, I don't hold WOT for any lenght of time, we sort of cruise, fish and sightsee.

I know its an iffy question, but some feedback would be appreciated from those with expereince.:)

Re: Fuel Question

Depends on the amount of space you have for a tank.Under the back where the tanks go,how much room do you have? I had a 5mtr 85hp tri-hull and I put a 70ltr tank under the transom.
Measure the room and then google marine gas tanks. You will get a lot of hits with plastic and steel tanks.
As far as the extra weight,NO problem.J

Extra load should be no problem, but if you want to be certain: find some weight and put them where the tanks will be. Take it to the lake and see.... you'll know before you buy everything. I found the "magic number" for gas to be 6.5lbs per gal (1.29kilo per liter).

My boat started w/ 6 gals (23 liters) which I found to be too little to go across the lake and back or just putting around fishing. I put in two 12 gals (91 liters) and have been happy with the results.

As you may be able to see in the avatar and possibly from the attached photo, one of my boats (Glastron V153) is rather narrow at the transom. With a 90 or 105 it rode too low in the water at rest with only two six gallon tanks under the splashwell. I re-made and raised the seat boxes to accomodate one tank each and still have some storage under the seats. It moved the weight of the fuel amidships. Perhaps you can do something similar with your hull.
