Fuel pump rebuild question 91 150 black max

I recently rebuilt my fuel pump...seems VERY simple, but after looking at a factory manual, i'm wondering if it was put together properly in the first place.

The way that it was originally put together, the diaphragms were on the inside of the gaskets. In the manual, the picture shows that the diaphragms are to the outside of the gaskets.

My manual was published in 94 and is for a 225hp, but the fuel pump looks identical. I was told by a former dealer that the engines are essentially the same; the main difference being the bore and stroke. He said that almost all other components are the same.

I forgot to mention...the rebuild kit that i bought had an additional gasket that was definetly not part of the fuel pump. Any idea what this gasket is for?

what was the problem before u rebuilt the pump?

I rebuilt the pump because the anchor screws were loose and the gasket for the vacuum hole was deteriorated. bought the kit and rebuilt the whole pump.

if the motor ran ok before, i would put it back together as it is. if its still not working, time to recheck the installation. you can also find a diagram of it with a good google search. good luck

If memory serves me will, the manual is correct. I think the change came in 92. You should have the fuel pump with the plastic body and aluminum top and bottom pieces.

All square body fuel pumps the gaskets go to the plastic inner housing and then diaphragms to the aluminum covers...

It is the square pump...but if I remember correctly, both the pump body and the covers are aluminum??? Did they make one that was all aluminum?
