idles fine but you have to dump the throttle or it goes dead. Once you get planed out you have to pump the bulb to keep it from bogging down. Got the rebuild kit and rebuilt it it passed the test to blow into the fuel pump. Worked then the coil went out next time I went out. Now I have took it apart again everything looks fine passed the test. Your help would be appreciated.

Re: fuel pump problems

Might not be the pump at all. Even a small leak anywhere between the pump and the fuel level in the tank will allow it to suck air bubbles. Fuel pumps are lousy air pumps.

Having said that generic reply, we don't know what motor or pump you are working on. Some of them are very complex and must be assembled exactly in the correct manner. For instance, some parts can be flipped over or upside down and look ok but won't work. So, what are we working on??

I pumped the bulb up rock hard like I was about to crank it, then left it there for about 30 minutes came back and it had lost no pressure in the bulb. So wouldn't that mean I have no leaks in the fuel lines. If so should I just get a new fuel pump or get another rebuild kit and try it again.

it idles fine without pumping the bulb, but when you get into it and plane out you have to pump bulb to keep it running.

No, you cannot make that assumption. Leaks between the bulb and tank would not show up in that "test". And it would be leaks between the pump and tank that would be causing your problem. One sneaky leak point is the little pins at the tank connector that get pushed in when you attach the hose. There is a tiny o-ring around one of those pins.

If you want to make one last attempt at fixing the pump, study this and follow it EXACTLY. Make one error and it probably won't work. http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/Rebuilding_fuelpump.htm

Re: fuel pump problems

There was a small leak around the fuel pump gaskets took it apart lined everything up correctly and now it runs fine.
