1996 Mercruiser 3.0 lx

I have a couple of fuel pump questions.

1. The filter in this pump is some sort of stone, is this replaceable? Does it need to be replaced with the carb filter(anually)? I didn't find anyhting about this filter in the Clymer Manual.

2. When I pulled this thing apart I found what looks like small pieces of broken glass filling the intake. Any idea what this is? Could this be residue from the fuel/tank or is this some sort of filter media?

3. I pulled the pump off thinking this was an electrical pump but (surprise) it's mechanical. I didn't read the section on lining the camshaft eccentric up and of course it wasn't when I removed it(almost got a nice squirt of fuel in the face). Can I just turn the engine over while watching and stop when the camshaft eccentric is at the top or do I need to do anything else before reinstalling?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

-Steven

I have pictures of the filter and glass at
http://www.pbase.com/steve_o/boat

If you need any more info/pictures let me know.

Re: Fuel pump problems

Clean it and re-use it. If you dont want to do that then here is the replacement.

Re: Fuel pump problems

HI Steve,
1) the stone Is cleanable, But I'd rather just replace it, with one like Trent posted.....Yes yearly is Good, Unless you have problems, then sooner, as needed...
2) That's crap from your Tank.....
3)Turn the engine over by hand till everything lines up,+ reinstall your fuel pump....
