Fuel pump problem

My engine started today, but then stalled and I couldn't get it started again. It starts right up when I pour some gas in the throttle body or when I hook up an outboard tank to it, but it will only run at idle and only when I keep pumping the bulb. If I try to give it more throttle it dies. When I turn the key I can hear the pump start and run for a few seconds.
I get no pressure at all at the fuel rail.
Its a 2002 Mercruiser 5.0L MPI engine serial number M351565.

Does it sound for sure to be the fuel pump?

Should I buy an aftermarket fuel pump for this? I can get a Mallory fuel pump for $180 or spend $350 for the Mercruiser "kit" which includes the cooler.

I can do this work myself, I've had the engine out before.

Thanks for any help.
