The engine is a 4 cylinder 1984 75 horse Mercury.
She runs fine most of the time, but during stormy weather when I run at a relatively low rpm (2000) she often cuts out and does not want to restart until half an hour later, and then only with pumping the ball.
I checked the fuel pickup, changed the hose and ball and did a very thorough cleanup of the carbs.I did not encounter any problems. Then I went into the triangular fuel pump and replaced the gaskets and the diaphragm. Here I found something unusual. The spring (#2486207) and the cap (#86252) that push against the diaphragm are missing.
Could this be the cause of my problem? Or is it one of those parts that were needed at one time, but later deemed superfluous by the company?
As always, thank you for your advice and opinions.
