Fuel pump gasket question

I noticed my rebuild kits have a thick gasket that goes between the pump and the motor thats held by the 2 mounting screws.
My OMC manual and the BRP site does not show these being used on my engine. The pumps were original and had no gasket on them either.
Are these some type of update to prevent heat from the block from transferring to the pump? After i hooked everything up i got thinking maybe i should have used them..

i always use them, cuts down on a possible leak.
