Fuel Pump Fitment

I have a 96 115 Johnson. Boat was previously switched to premix and the VRO disabled.

When to buy a new fuel pump because of fuel related problems and was given Part # 0438556 and a replacement. They had another non-VRO pump for $360 but declined that.

Problem is my current pump is using three lines: Fuel in, Fuel out and Vacuum. The new pump has only 2 ports: Fuel i, and fuel out.

Any ideas? Old and new pumps look nothing alike.

I can feel a jerry rig coming.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Fuel Pump Fitment

Look at the pulse line fitting and you may find another hole just edit: above it that is plugged. There would be threaded holes on each side. If you have that, you can plug the pulse line hole for the VRO and mount the pump that you have directly after removing the plug for the 438556 lift pump.

If you do not have that fitting, you could run it on a BRP 0438557 which has the third nipple for the pulse line. You could use the same hoses if they are OK. The 438557 has the large diameter fittings for the fuel hoses.

Actually I think the motor is a 94.

Your picture helped a lot. Thanks a lot.

Right now my vacuum line goes to the VRO port in your picture. Looks like The three holes above have the center one plugged. I can probably swap the plug and mount the fuel pump on the block rather than the carb cover plate where it was.

Sound right to you?

Will try to do it tomorrow. got to take care of a sick wife today.
Thanks again for the info.

I don't know if the plugs are the same, but they are standard NPT plugs. Be sure to use a sealer on the plug.

Does it matter if the inlet ports are up vs down?

Not enough room if I mount them down. I have the old vacuum port plugged. Now just a matter of getting the fuels lines turned around.

Thanks

Re: Fuel Pump Fitment

The lift pump is mounted with the gasket and hole aligned and screwed tightly so there is no air leak. I think it will pump upside down, but I don't understand the need. I've mounted them on the V4's before and it was not a problem.

Had the boat on the water yesterday. It ran great with the new fuel pump. Thanks for the help.
