Re: Fuel pump conversion

In my opinion the mechanical pump (which has been around since Hector was a pup) has a better life expectancy than most electrics. Electrics are used on EFI engines because of the higher fuel pressures required, not because they are more reliable. Electrics also need to be wired through the oil pressure switch so the pump cannot run if the engine dies thus eliminating the chance for the pump to feed a fire. That also means a bypass circuit is needed when cranking since there is no oil pressure until the engine starts. Keep what you have. If there is a fuel feed issue, fix the issue.

I did remove the tank last week, cleaned it, found about 2 table spoons of rust, more like a amber crystal. I discovered by accident that the nozzell on the tank had a check valve built in. Not sure if it was stuck or not but it aint now. Now that i have the tank ready to go back in i wanted to go with a electric pump because i thought it would work better. Sound like from the responses i need to stick with the mechanical ones. Any other suggestions, i would be glad to listen, thanks
