Well...as I said in an eariler post...my 1982 sea ray has been sitting for 9 years. Decided to put it in this summer, one prob after another and this is the latest..Was not running well, probs holding an idle, stalling. a friend suggested changing the gas. we connected a portable tank it seemed to run fine on land. I decided to have the onboard tank professionally emptied. i refueled with about 25 gals. still stalling...cant hold an idle...the same friend recommended changing the water seperating fuel filter. I did that and it seemed to run better...now its doing it again...my bud said might have to empty that filter a couple of times. Not to mention the Carb isnt in the best shape. Any Suggestions ??? Thanks Guys...

Get a Racor fuel-water seperating filter. It will have a drain plug on the bottom that you can use to drain the water without changing the filter. Figure $30-45 for cost. Coast Guard rules- If you have an enclosed engine compartment, then you must get the metal bowl. If you have an outboard you can get the see-through plastic bowl.

That said, I am not sure why you did 25 gallons- I would have only done 5-10 to start with. If that fuel has been in there for 9 years, geez I hate to think what it has become. Also, there may be a inline filter at the carb: check your service manual to be sure.

I would do like you have started... empty tank. Replace rubber fuel lines, all filters, rebuild carb, tune up engine with quality parts, change all fluids in engine and drive, change impeller, and go from there. Can't hold idle... prolly the idle circuit in the carb :) Goodluck!

Well, we don't even know what you are working on  But it's hard for me to say go for it... since it's easy for me. Do you feel comfortable doing your own maintenance and such? If you can follow directions... and if you get a clean area on the workbench thats well lit and you have basic hand tools and air compressor, and take your time, you prolly can accomplish a rebuild.
