I have a 1989 50hp evinrude with vro it runs perfectly at low revs but when I open it up it accelerates and then dies it keeps doing this unless I squeeze the petrol primer bulb.It also works if I raise the petrol tank to gravity feed the fuel.I have checked for fuel leaks, restrictions, blockages etc but I can find no problems.I have even stripped the vro pump but it all looks fine.As I premix my oil and fuel anyway can I fit a normal fuel pump,if so what type?, or is there another solution.

Re: fuel problems evinrude

Install a fuel pump from the " 48 " special model . It bolts directly to the block ( upper cylinder on the port side) . it is cheap and fool proof.
