Hi all,

I've got a 55 Envirinrude 55 HP 1979 2 stroke. My fuel primer bulb is always hard. Even if the boat hasn't been started for a few weeks, when I go to pump it, it is already hard. In fact, the engine is easier to start when the bulb is not pumped. Just give it some choke when starting and it starts first time. I'm having some stalling problems when putting the boat from idle into gear when engine is warm. It's fine when cold. When the engine is running and bulb is squeezed, it does send extra fuel to the engine as it coughs and chokes a little. Would the bulb be casuing these stalling issues?

Thanks.

John M,

Is your engine a 3-cyl. or two?

Either way, the stalling issue is usually carb. related. One or more of the carbs. may be not functioning as well as the others.

Priming the bulb, with engine running, should not effect engine operation. The symptoms you describe sound like a leaking needle/seat valve in one or more of the carbs.

Are you certain that the fuel flow on the bulb is correct? There is an arrow on the bulb that indicates the intended direction of fuel flow.

Hi, JohnM.

I don't think your primer bulb is causing any problems. It is doing exactly what I would expect.

I think you could use a "link 'n' synch" procedure to ensure that you idle is correctly set, the carbs are synched and that spark advance is coming in when it should.

If you don't have one, get yourself a manual. Even an aftermarket manual will do for L&S.

Good luck. :)
