I'm looking to clean up the engine compartment and replace all the rubber, and I'm looking for some advice on fuel plumbing.

The previous owner has the following set-up coming out of the fuel tank pick-up: Fuel line, into in-line marine filter, into primer bulb, into fuel pump, into carb.

I doubt this is standard. . .why is there a primer bulb in there? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there shouldn't be a need to squeeze a primer bulb on an engine that has a fuel pump?

I want to mount a spin-off fuel filter (eliminate the cheapo in-line) and go straight to the pump. My way is correct, right?

I have a AQ145A and that is how mine is setup. (No bulb I mean) I do like the idea of the spin-off filter vs. a in-line filter.

I just bought the spin off fuel/water separating filter and plan to install it just as you said. I always thought that the primer bulb was illegal on an I/O? On the first start of the season I slip a primer bulb in the line just to assist the fuel flow to the pump after sitting all winter. Then I remove it.

Illegal? Man, I just figured it was unnecessary!

I can't really see how it could be a safety hazard or anything, I just don't see any reason to pull the engine cover and squeeze a bulb, if I have a fuel pump that moves the juice.

Everything in the fuel system has to pass a CG burn through test Which MAKES OUTBOARD BULBS Illegal as well as inline auto filters

And outboard fuel filter with a clear plastic bowl is also Illegal

The fuel line before the pump has to be A-1 rated and after the fuel pump should be metal

Rubber A-1 can be used BUt it must be with approved hose fittings which are pretty hard to find
