Just put my boat back together.
888 merc, 302 with mechanical fuel pump on 1975 slickcraft.
It started right away then stopped like it ran out of gas.
Fuel pump was not pumping fuel so I changed the pump and the filter.
Then cranked and poured gas into the carb for a long time. Never ran on it's own, never pumped fuel out.... with 3/4 tank.
Filled the tank, (about 12 gallons),when I cranked it fuel shot out right away,it started. Runs great.
I checked for air leaks.
Does anyone know if this boat has a soft pick up line in the tank that could be cracked part way down (letting in air not priming the pump)? If so can I get to it from the top where the gauge is?
Or is the line rigid at the bottom?
Also is the a anti-siphon valve on this era boat? Could it be stuck shut at first?
Boat was bow high on the trailer when I started it....If that matters.
Any other Idea's.
Thanks in advance.
