I just bought a 1992 Dynasty Elanti 191 with a Yamaha L4 3.0 sterndrive. When I bought it the engine cranked effortlessly however she was not in the water so I did not see her when she accelerated. I took her out today and everything went well until we accelerated up to 2000 rpm at which point she stalled out. She kept doing this over and over until we just limped back to the ramp and gave up for the day. I do not have a repair manual at this time (it will be here Tuesday). In searching the forum I see this issue happens with the shifting cables. Some have suggested it could be a fuel or carburetor issue (the boat will now turn over but not start). I'm at a loss. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Mechanically I'm pretty good with engines if it is nothing major. This is my first boat I am just learning everything.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... The shiftin' killin' the motor is usually at shiftin' into gear, not cruisin' along,...

I'd suspect the fuel too,... Check the fuel Filters,...
I'm guessin' there's 1 in the fuel pump, 'n 1 in the carb inlet, like everybody else does on the 3.0ls...

Checkin' or changin' the spark plugs wouldn't hurt either,..

There is one in the fuel pump along with the one in the carb. But don't discount a failing fuel pump.

Re: Fuel or shifting issues Yamaha L4 3.0 sterndrive

Thanks Bond-o and Capt. Ken. I took off and cleaned the carburetor as best I can and then decided to just go ahead and do a rebuild. I was able to find a rebuild kit at iShopMarine so just gotta wait until it gets here. By that time the Clymers manual should be here. I'll probably just go ahead and replace the fuel pump. Also, does anyone know which fuel line is the right one (YSC13161200C or YSC13161210C). It seems that the brass fitting going into the carburetor is stripped (on the outside) and needs to be replaced and since it is connected to the fuel line I'll just replace the whole thing. Problem is I don't know which one to order. Mine looks just like the one in the diagram. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends which carb you have. Rochester or Niki?

Just to tell you how to break the parts number down. YSC means stern drive. 131612 means fuel line. 00 means first production. 01 means first update.

Does it have one low speed adjustment screw or two? Two is Rodchester. One is Niki

I am having the same issue will fire up as long as I you starter fluid but then it punters out. I have pin point it down to either the filters or the pump.. But I cannot find a Pump does anybody know where I can find one. Or can I put in an electric fuel pump... And what is that extra tube that comes out of it back to the carburetor
