Fuel/Oil ratio

Hello
I need to find out what the fuel/oil ratio is for a 85 Evinrude 25. I have heard 50:1 and I have heard 25:1. Was told the other day that the old gas, probably 1 year old, might be part of my problem with the motor not running properly.
Thanks
Keith

50:1 mix is the ticket. Year old fuel can be a problem. Mix fresh fuel.

Yes, dump the old fuel asap. Also, some of the late 80's engines were listed as 100:1 but they sort of recanted that afterwards... So 50:1 is usually used.

Thanks for the answers... But what do I do with the old fuel? Can't just dump it out on the ground.

I pour my old fuel in a 5gal bucket and put it outside to evaporate. Once the gas evaporates I take the oil to my oil recycling place with all my other oil.

Put it in the car a gallon at a time to a nearly fuel tank of fuel. I've used pre-mix in mowers many times with no noticible effects...

If it is bad for your outboard, it is bad for your lawnmower too. Not to mention the expensive risks of dumping it in your car. Does it still smell like gas, or does it stink? Does your local trash dept have a hazardous waste disposal service? What do the local shops in your area do with theirs? They may take it off your hands for a price. Remember, they pay dearly to dispose of their hazardous waste, so don't expect a freebee.

I read somewhere that 2 cycle oil could be used in any engine without a catalytic converter IE lawnmower or older engine but I wouldn't put it in the car. I use my old premix in the burn barrel that I burn wood scraps an cardboard in but I live in the sticks

yea you can put it in a lawnmower, probably wouldn't put it in a car though. Lawn mowers will run on anything

Ia it a six gallon tank that is about half full? If so I would just add new fuel and oil and let her rip. That is all I do every year. No stabil, but I do try to run the tank down as low as I can before putting away for winter, usually a gallon or so.

Re: Fuel/Oil ratio

Dont remember the ratio, but do remember being stranded after putting 2 stroke mix in a 4 stroke motorcycle years ago-I'd let it evaporate if it were mine to get rid of-
