Fuel/Oil leaking from Powerhead

Hello,

I have a '77 Johnson 35hp that is running well, but is leaking fuel from the powerhead, down the exhaust housing and into the water. It looks like the fuel is leaking near the bolts on both sides of the engine. It leaks while running at high speed and continues to drip when shut off.

Does this mean it's time for a new head gasket? Anyone ever replace one before? Is it OK to continue running the engine with this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help-Jeff.

If it's continuing to drip when shut off it's more than likely a stuck, misadjusted, or gummed up float needle. See if you can trace your leak back to the underside of your carb. It may just be collecting around the powerhead and hiding the source.
