I have an old green 3hp Johnson model jw10. No gears just a throttle slide. Is the gas/oil mix 32:1 or 24:1? I think it is too old for the 50:1 mix. Thanks

You can use the 24/1 mixture. One quart of 50/1 oil to six gallons of gasoline. A octane rating of 87 will be fine.

The JW-10 was made from 1952 to 1954, Rick.

One of the truly great outboards.

Thanks for the info on the date, that makes my day with this. The old timer who had it painted it for duck hunting, but it is in good shape yet.

Not the 3hp. 3hp didn't get a fiberglass hood until 1968 - year before they bumped it up to 4hp with a redesigned powerhead...

Well the old OMC site is down but I was sure they all looked fibreglass in the 60's... oh well... but as I have never had one I'll defer it to you guys... I know the Evinrudes are but you're sure the Johnson's are also huh? huh...

Only real difference is the front plate, front (screw on) carry handle and the ring that divides the tank and the lower cowling. The tank and lower cowl on my 1967 is the same as my 1952 -minus the screw on carry handle. I don't know about the Evinrudes, but I'd assume they were metal too during this period.
