Got the 2003 Johnson 90 hp mounted on the boat this past weekend. Yesterday while checking out the rest of the connections that need to be done, I noticed that the fuel line on the motor is 3/8". The fuel line from the gas tank is 5/16". The 5/16 feed the 85 hp Force with no problems.

I plan to put a 5/16 to 3/8 barb connector in the line for now. But I'm wondering if the 90 really needs the 3/8" and should the hose, hose barbs on filter and gas tank, and primer bulb all be up sized to 3/8"?

The 5/16" fuel lines should be fine for that engine. You need to go to the 3/8" line when you run a V6.

imho 3/8".

Going to put the change to 3/8 on my to do list.

The 5/16" fuel lines should be fine for that engine. You need to go to the 3/8" line when you run a V6.

I guess because the 60* V4 and V6 use so many of the same parts it was easier to use the 3/8 on the V4 rather than make its own 5/16" fuel filter fitting?

Who knows, but as long as it won't get fuel starved, I'll go with the 5/16 for now.

Thanks!
