fuel line question

I have 1989 25 horse evinrude. I decided to replace fuel line coming from fuel pump to carb. I took old hose into autozone. When it rang up the receipt said vacuum hose. Can I use a piece of vacuum hose for gas? The guy who waited on me said that was what I had brought in, so that was what had been on there.
Thanks,
Mary

Re: fuel line question

Sometimes auto stores get confused. Vaccum hose cannot be used because the fuel will eat away the rubber and will not hold fuel pressure. The hose you have can possibly be fuel line hose and the cashier was mistaken. The hose should be stamped or written upon indicating it is a fuel line it is also more rigid then vaccum hose and will have a "nylon" braid in the center.

Re: fuel line question

Well I talked to neighbor who works on motorcycles and came up with a piece of 3/16 fuel line. I will order the 1/8" line when I get the rebuild kit for the primer pump. Thanks.
