Fuel line delamination?

I had an interesting find last month when I changed the fuel filter on my 2005 Nissan NSF18B2. I do this annually and never really paid much attention to it except this time I decided to try and shine a light through the translucent white filter. Much to my surprise I couldn't see any light through it, basically plugged almost solid with material. So I cut it open carefully with a hack saw and I found all these thin hard brownish broken up pieces of what looked like tubing. I had no idea what it was and couldn't come up with a logical explanation.

Until today that is when I stumbled across some pictures and posts on various message boards about the mercury silver fuel line coming apart internally. I've had this exact same hose and primer bulb on my boat for 10 YEARS now. I guess I am very lucky this circumstance didn't strand me on the water. Actually I have had no running concerns in several years now.

Now I am really looking forward to buying a new hose and bulb assembly but I have no idea which one I need for my boat/engine. I am also not sure which fuel line connector my engine takes. I could probably reuse the original fuel line connector on the engine (it's only held together by a ziptie) but I don't know what size line to look for. Anyone have any idea?

Yep silver fuel line which has an internal cover dilaminates with heat, time and E, it's a crap fuel line. Had this exact same issue several moons back, drove me nuts to near insanity till the hidden bastard was found and shot. Get a Tohatsu 18 HP standard fuel line.

Happy Boating

I wound up with a Moeller line and primer bulb on short notice, didn't really have a choice if I wanted to fish today. Once I took the line off to have a look I saw how bad it was and couldn't chance reinstalling it.

Also found out that 3/8" was the size I was looking for.

The Moeller stuff isn't much better.

Learned long ago, Trident fuel lines and OEM primer bulbs
