Hey guys I have a 89 Johnson 110 v4 and I just rebuilt the carbs and the top one is leaking very bad with just the bulb pumped. Its leaking from the bottom of the carb where the plastic cover goes over the float. Its a brand new gasket but it leaks pretty bad just when the bulb is pumped and pressures the system. Is there anything wrong with putting a good sealant on the gaskets to keep them from leaking or is going dry the best way to go?

I'd take the cover back off and check for cracks.

weird thing is I took the second carb off and if I blow in the bottom of the car I can see it pushing out from the float cover where the gasket is.

The plastic float bowls on this year Johnson/Evinrudes are highly likely to warp with age. You should be able to tell by putting the mating surface of the bowl on a piece of glass. There is no really good fix for those bowls once they warp. They will leak fuel. Worse-sometimes they can leak air into the carb fuel when running, creating a lean condition-not good for the powerhead. Best to replace both bowls with the older style aluminum ones. Replacing them is a rather involved process.
