I took out a boat that I just bought with "only 2 hours on the motor". I had to throttle it pretty high to get it to start then when I moved the throttle back to idle the rpms dropped and it died. I kept trying and could only keep it running with the throttle pushed forward. The rpms were bouncing between 1000 and 2000 then it dropped to below 800 and died. When I removed the cover on the motor to maybe adjust the idle and started the motor, fuel was leaking, "pouring", down the carburators. For safety sake I shut it down and pulled it out of the water. This is my first boat and I don't know where to start. I don't know if the "2 hours" are from this year or last summer. Could they have winterized it and left a hole open when they drained the fuel?

is the manual choke accidently left in the on position
is the fuel pouring out of the carberator throat
if the choak is ok then it might be a stuck
flat needle valve

Re: fuel leaking 2002 yamaha 60

This is my 1st boat so pardun my ignorance. I didn't know that there was a manual choke. I thought you push in the key while starting to operate the choke.
The fuel is coming out of a tiny hole near the top of the 2nd carburator from the top. If the float is not working on that carb or the needle is stuck will the carb fill with fuel and leak out that hole? Is it difficult to remove and clean the carbs?
