fuel leakage

Hi, I've recently bought my first boat, a 1986 Chaparral open-bow with a 140 h.p. 4 cyl. Mercruiser I/O. I took it out to the lake today, filling it up with gas on the way (removed the fuel hose after the first time it clicked off.) At the lake we had starting problems (fun fun) and had to go home without even running it. On the way home, and while at home backing into the driveway, I noticed lots of fuel leaking out of what I believe is a vent on the side of the hull just below the fuel-fill port. Is that normal, considering the tank is still full? I hope not...strong gas odors and lots of gas running down onto the hull and trailer...seems abnormal, not to mention dangerous.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Brian

Re: fuel leakage

That hole that fuel is leaking from is a vent for the fuel tank. I will leak a little fuel, from my experience, when the tank is full. Nothing should be getting into the boat though. Hope this helps
GL
