Engine: 1987 110hp with capped off VRO

took boat out first first run of year. ran great. no issues. i was surprised as the fuel was from Sept. last year and this was 2 weeks ago.

took it out again couple days later. would start but would die after increased throttle and almost on plane. if i had someone back there pumping the bulb it would stay running and get on plane and run fine. this lasted for a time. then it wouldn't even stay running with someone pumping bulb.

suspected pump but checked other things first. went home and changed out pre motor filter and cleaned out filter within motor. both had seen better days. also put in new plugs. took it out and it started out and stayed running but still didn't want to get up on plane before dieing, still bulb pumping wasn't helping but it would plow water better....

took it home and put and extra VRO combo pump i had from a donor motor. maybe this pump was better? capped off VRO and also replace a fuel line that was cracked but not all the way through (line didn't lose pressure when capped on one end and air forced on other). there is a mixure of zip ties and snapper clamps in there as well......

now it will start in driveway and run for about 5 seconds then die. could be this pump is even worse off? IDK. soliciting opinions.

my htoughts. order Fuel Pump for Johnson, Evinrude 433386 438555 - Sierra 18-7353 - iboats

and some snapper clamps and try that?

could it be varnish in carbs? seems like it is more likely the pumps as i received two different results with different fuel pumps of unknown condition......

anything i should try before throwing more cash at this thing?

Re: fuel issues on 1987 110hp

Well, 1st off i have the same motor & it's been a "guddun" for 4 seasons now-
Only fuel issue i've had up till now ( i have a venting problem but no biggie) was nasty carbs- I'd at least take them off & give them a good cleaning, these are very simple to do & all it would cost is a couple cans of carb cleaner & a couple hrs of your time.
