I am looking at a couple of different Sea Ray Signature 210's. Some have carbs... I also live in SE Michigan. There are at least 3 suppliers of marine Fuel Injection Conversion kits here:

1) Performance Fuel Injection
2) Affordable fuel injection
3) Howell Engine Development

I really want to go FI (even is only TBI) for the better economy, cleaner running and easier starting.

Has anyone used any of these kits?
Opinions?

Performance will install the entire kit including parts for about $1500...

Most of these kits are 2 bbl and based on the TBI setup from a 1980's-1990's S10 V6

I am leary....

My concern with these units...is long term aftermarket support...will the parts be around...if you need em...like ECMs and sensors...whereas...you can always get parts for a Holley or an Edelbrock carb...I can even get most everything I need for my old Quadrajet....I'll take a carb...and mechanical fuel pump anyday in an old boat....just learn the quirks of carbs...its better than being told the part you need is N...L...A....

First, if your carb is properly maintained, there is no economy or performance benefit of EFI over a carb

Second, Easier starting is also debatable, pump a carb once to set choke and prime, throttle at 30% and turn key. With a properly maintained engine, it will usually start within 1-2 revolutions.

Third, as pointed out, $1500 is a lot of money for an electric carburetor

There are marine bone yards out there. Could you get the parts you need from someone like that?

You’d need to go MPI to see any significant improvements in economy. Put simple. It would be hellish expensive to do that. A well set up carb will be just as efficient as a TBI efi.

Also...these systems don't always work as advertised...go over to Holley.com and do some reading on their forums...you'll see that people have a fair amount of teething trouble getting these to work right..Get your carb set up right....learn its quirks...and carry on mate....after all...us older guys...drove cars everyday that were exactly the same...Carters...Motorcrafts...and Quadrajets….oh my.....and we always got...where we were going....
