I have a crusader 5.7 liter with vortec heads and Holley 4bbl carburetor. Hard starting described in earlier posts. Problem seems to be carb, compounded by ethanol in fuel. Considering advisability of converting to fuel injection.
There is a TPI fuel injection system from a 1986 corvette available, complete with ECU, etc. Does anyone know if this will work on the crusader engine (2004 engine, 315 hp)? What is involved in converting it to marine usage. Unit is inexpensive, but concerned over its utility in boat. Boat is a 21' seaRay BW.
Thanks

Automotive EFI units don't lend themselves to Marine applications too well........

Many of the Sensors needed to make them operate properly, Can't be put into/onto a Marine motor..........

If you could stumble onto a Marine designed EFI take-off from a blown or frozen motor,..?.....?.....

Well,...... Let's just say I've got My Eye Out for the Right deal.................

Btw,.......
I didn't get to deep into your Carb thread because it's a Holley,...... I do the AFB Clones......

YouR 86 ecm is a 165 ecm Mass air flow unit. You would need to convert it to a 730 MAP ecm and keep it in open loop. If you know how to tune its no big problem. With it in open loop it doesnt need any sensors except a Map, TPS, IAT (MAT), IAC. 02 doesnt work until it goes into closed loop. Before that it stays at a constant.

FYI.... never buy anything automotive and stick it on a boat motor.
Well.... there are a few things... you can buy auto oil filters....
you can buy auto spark plugs... granted they are the exact same thing... if you go to the autoparts store hoping to have a few bucks, and you request say an ac delco plug number (which is the correct number for said engine) and they don't have it but cross it to an autolite or some other crap dont buy it. Stick with the manufactorers recomended plug... and that's it!! Except that you can pretty much put NGK or denso in most motors and not have a problem... (except for some j/rudes... that i know of... but if there is a question on it don't take my word... stick with the factory plug... even if that means a trip to another store)
Water seperating filters.... sometimes its ok to use an auto (typically deisel) one... sometimes it not. On a sterndrive it doesn't really mater but on an outboard it may... either way going the correct and factory route is always better.
I don't know about you other guys... but up here in new england i get a ton of calls for engines that run rough or don't run. I almost always have to start with a full tune before I can even really do some real diagnosis. Up here people seem to think that usage isn't as important as time... coz the boats here sit a whole bunch and don't get run often....
Not running an engine consistantly and often is about the worst thing you can do except for beating on it.

Do some searches online, but I know Indmar had TPI and LT1 on their Mastercraft boats at one time. They accually have the LSX line of motors for use now.
