Update, need more help...
1999 Evinrude 9.9HP four stroke, getting fuel in the oil
I (finally) got around to removing/inspecting the fuel pump. All looks good (diaphragm, etc.), EXCEPT:
From the service diagram, the "Pump Mounting O-Ring" is damaged. It's not an "O" right now, more like a "C." This is the O-ring that the pump tightens against, between the pump and the block.
Can this be the problem? HOW is this the problem? Does fuel leak around the O-ring, and just "fall" to the bottom of the motor, to be absorbed into the oil? Why does the motor still run so good?
I'm going to replace the O-ring, obviously. More thoughts?
