I took out the fill hose and it has wires spiraled around it. Is there a problem with using standard grade automotive fuel line for this?

Re: Fuel Hoses

You should be using USCG approved fuel hoses on your boat. The reasons are for safety. Automotive hoses usually are not tested by the USCG. If it has been tested, it will state that it is, on the hose. When the USCG approves an item, it is put thru various tests all for safety reasons. Fuel systems are one of the areas you should not mess with, ALWAYS USE USCG APPROVED FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS IN YOUR BOAT.

Hose with wire IN it is so it wont kink making a curve or bend. There should be a wire from the fill hardware to the tank (which should be grounded) to prevent static electricity and the ensuing loud noise.

I hate that noise!

Re: Fuel Hoses

After pricing the USCG approved hose I have decided to use what I was on the boat. It is not flaking or coming apart. I would like to clean it before putting it back on. Any suggestions on cleaning it before putting it back on or does anyone see a problem with using it? It kind of has a smell of sour gas but it is pretty old. Thanks in advance for any help.

The wire in the hose could also be used for grounding purposes?
