I’m finally finishing up repairs on my 1989 125 force on 1990 Bayliner 1903CC and now want to start working on the gauges. All work with the exception of my fuel gauge. It illuminates, but that’s about it. A friend said his doesn’t work either, but he’s just ignored the problem. I’m a beginner when it comes to boating, so I don’t want to go out and not know how much gas I have left in the tank. Where should I start looking to figure out what the problem is?

Re: Fuel Gauge

At the tank. There'll be a sender on the top. Access? Depends on the boat. Be careful if you remove it. That's gas in there and could easily blow if you cause a spark. Disconnect the battery for sure. But if you're not confident, have it done at a shop and let them risk their lives. I personally don't like to do it because I don't want my kids growing up without me, but a job is a job is a job...
