I have 1991 Sea Nymph SS175 and the fuel gauge is not working. I took the 2 wires off the fuel sendor unit and touched them together, seems be no power to the unit. I also checked all the fuses, all are good. Any ideas??? Thanks

Fuel gauges generally have wires for power, ground and sender. It sounds like you are missing one of those.

If you touched the 2 sending unit wires together and nothing happened, I would next confirm there is 12v power available at the gauge.

there never is any power to the fuel sender. one wire is a ground (black wire), the other is the variable ground signal to the gauge (pink wire)

if there was power there, the resistor wire in the fuel sender would turn into an igniter and you would blow up the fuel tank.

agree with ahicks, if you touched the two wires together, look at your gauge.

I touched the 2 wires together with the key on and the gas gauge never moved. My guess is either I have some faulty wires or the gas gauge is bad.

would be easy to check

gauge has 4 or 5 wires (1-2 being the lights). the purple wire is on the + or I terminal (this is hot with your ignition switch), the Black wire is on the ground terminal (goes to the ground buss), and the pink wire is on the S terminal and goes to the gauge sender.

Thanks for your help. Just trying to save some $ especially if its an easy fix.
