Was planning to install Navman 2100 fuel flow meter on my 2003 200HP EFI, but read that readings could be erratic for some EFI engines that puts fuel in bowl 1st, then takes fuel from bowl to feed injectors. The fuel flow meter registers surges as bowl is filled, less when it backs off until empties. Total fuel burn would be accurate, but useless for finding burn vs rpm readings. Would my engine have such a problem with fuel flow meters???
Thanks in advance....

Re: FUEL FLOW FOR YAMMY 2003 200 EFI

i think from what I have read that if the fuel is cycled in motor then total fuel usage would be accurate but instant litres/gallons per hour would be way out and eratic. I think where the big problem with turbine transducers like these is where the engine re-cycles fuel back to the fuel tank - I have a feeling that the Fichts did this, but I am just pissing in the wind because it was somthing I read a while back. BTW I have the 2100 on my boat with a 115 v4 carb yammy and it works exceptionally well...so well that I can tell you that Yammy's web site figure of max fuel use of 47litres/hour is dead accurate.

Re: FUEL FLOW FOR YAMMY 2003 200 EFI

hello
the way the EFI works is the low pressure mechanical pumps pull fuel from the tank. it sends the fuel to a large chamber called a Vapor Seperator Tank or VST.the VST is a super big fuel bowl. it allows the medium pressure pump to have a fresh clean cool vapor free supply of gasoline. the medium pressure pump pressurizes the fuel rail to about 35 psi. the return fuel goes through a pressure regulator that will maintain 35 psi in the rail every time an injector fires it closes and maintains the pressure. the VST has a needle valve assy to maintain a preset level in it just like a carb fuel bowl. so the only time the flow should surge is if for some reason the VST had been drained, in normal running conditions it wont surge anymore than a carbbed motor and should run just fine with your flow scan
good luck and keep posting but wotch out for bull puddles
:)

I remember where I read that - was the instructions that came with the Navman unit. Check their web site.

hello
scottoz
some systems do use a return to the main fuel tank. I dont design them I just fix them.
I just installed a pair of MPI marine power 5.7's. the customer was adamant no fuel coolers so we ran fuel returns tothe tank. so now his flow scans are useless.
good luck and keepposting

Yep....the Navman is easier on the wallet than the Yamaha option, and I've heard good things about the 2100, so didn't think I would lose too much in process.
