This may be a dumb question, but reading a previos post brought it to my attention. Had my boat winterized last year and they changed the fuel filter. Was just wondering, does anybody know if I have a fuel filter and a water seperating fuel filter or is this one in the same? I have a Mercruiser I/O 5.7L 1996. Also I read the post about the oil drip and clogged flame arrestor, how often should that thing be cleaned. My mechanic told me they inspected and cleaned mine as part of the winterizing process, but I may inspect mine anyways. (Just starting to establish some trust with my new mechanic, you know you gotta watch those guys) Thanks for any comments

Re: Fuel Filter

495v,

If you have a water seperator, it looks like an oil filter attached to a housing with an inlet and outlet. Just trace your fuel line back to the tank. If it's there, you'll see it.

A good rule of thumb for checking the arrestor is to clean it when you change oil.

Re: Fuel Filter

Novacane, thanks for the reply. I had to read your message a few times because of your thrifty typing / spelling, but I managed. It is carb. so do I have both a fuel filter and water seperating filter or is this one in the same?
