Have been experimenting lately huge problems unscrewing fuel filter from base, definitely due to E added to gasoline, before E time, filter was much friendly to screw/unscrew. The upper round portion seems to expand and locks itself on the upper theads of the base once firmly closed as to avoid fuel spills which could be dangerous.

Have tried wet towels, big hands with no avail. There's a square support under filter, but being not solid enough flexes too much and wrench skips off, if forced will break out. Is there any suitable tool someone can direct me to, will be much appreciated.

Re: Fuel Filter Wrench

Either the plastic base may have shrunk, or the bowl may have swelled. Try a "strap wrench" if you can find/make one small enough. In future, you can lube the plastic threads to help with removal.

Re: Fuel Filter Wrench

Paul,

The filter's upper threads are always oil/grease lubed including the upper cup portion before screwing back. But when it's removed to clean each 100 worked hours turns very difficult to unscrew. Definitely one of E disastrous issues; it's expanding upper filter portion. If you try a new filter, you could screw it with your teeth. Will try to find a small strap wrench, could Harbor Freight Tools or any other big tool store have one ? Thanks,

Hmmm, I don't seem to have that problem with my all metal filter ... ;)

Fuel Filter

Would you say that mesh internal filter remains in same shape whether using E or non E blended fuels, when engines are out of the box, fuel filters usually comes with small fuel leftovers amounts which must be drained, when cap is removed mesh filter looks impeccable straight.

Have also noticed the upper portion of the filter doesn't lock tight to the upper small o'ring located under base including filter deforming it's shape too. Was wondering if you guys are experimenting same.

Re: Fuel Filter Wrench

We haven't had issues... But since most of our motors use the inline filter, we don't do as much with the settling-bowl type filters.
