I have a 5.0L Merc and am going to change the fuel filter/water separator this weekend. This may be an obvious question, but what do you do with the fuel in the filter? Can it be mixed with the used oil and brought to a recycling center? Does it require its own container?

Re: Fuel Filter Question

Put it on a glass jar. Let it settle. Water, if any, will be on the bottom. Pour the gas in the lawn mower or whatever. What little is left mix in the oil. Let the filter air out upside down out on the back 40 for a couple days, or some other similar safe way. Fumes heavier than air. Then bag and trash.

Re: Fuel Filter Question

In Seattle we have a household hazardous waste facility.....If you are not a commercial workshop, they will accept it....Free of charge....I use a 2 gallon gas can for this...It's a little ride for me, but I store my yearly waste & make the pilgrimage....If that is not an option for you, then what Robby suggests is the next best alternative, IMO. I'm glad that you are envirnonmentally concerned to pose this question. Kudos to you!....JK
