Fuel filter question

1979 15 HP Evinrude
Just installed a carb. kit (dirtest carb. I have ever seen on an engine that was still running) noticed there is no fuel filter, I installed a inline filter. Did they produce these with no filter or did somone maybe remove it and never put it back? Just curious. Never seen an engine without some type of fuel filtration system but I am new to outboards

Fuel pump probably has a fine mesh screen in it. A lot of the small OMC motors have no filter.

Now that you mention it I believe there was a mesh filter in the pump when I rebuilt it last year. Just seems like there should be more so I will leave the inline filter.
