fuel filter 5.7l

Hi All,<br />Mercruiser 5.7litre alpha 1.<br />I can't get the fuel filter canister off.<br />I am using a strap wrench, and am reefing on it as room permits.<br />The wrench did work on the oil filter,but will not budge the fuel filter. Is there fuel pressure there or something that is restricting movement?<br />The engine was started once this spring so far to heat up the oil.<br />Thanks a heap,<br />Bill

Someone probably put it on with a wrench or too tight, and forgot to put oil on the gasket, or put grease on the ring which is just like using glue.<br />I've found using a steady heavy pressure usually with a cheater bar on the strap wrench or filter wrench will usually get it to slowly but surly release the gasket. On a few occasions I have had to take the filter off piece by piece. Not fun and with a fuel filter you can at least remove it from the boat and use a vise.
