Fuel Filling Backsplash

When filling my gas tank at any gas station if I fill it too fast I get considerable vapor/air splashback which overwhelms the nozzels capacity and spews out all over. If I go slowly... a gallon or so at a time I have no problem. I'm positive the tank is less than one half full and the engine runs like a top and gets great mileage. Any ideas?

Trophyboy,

Look for a pinched or blocked vent line. Also, the vent line should not have any dips in it.

I assume your fuel tank is in the floor? You should have a pry up or unscrew type deck plate over the vent line connection atthe fuel tank.

Re: Fuel Filling Backsplash

Earlier this year I had a simular problem. My guage said less than a 1/4 full so I went to put in 50 gal (120 gal tank). After 10 gal or so fuel spit back from the fill big time. Come to find out my sending unit was bad and I had a lot more fuel in the tank than I thought.
