just out of shop 4 months 135hr ouch and still not right, carbs rebuilt, timing correct, rejetted for altitude compression good, lower unit fine correct prop & pitch, WOT is 4k with 17 pitch dropping to 15pitch should give me 5500 rpm WOT electronics all test & work New stator. Will start & idle smooth when giving fuel in gear dies constantly will start running out eventually having to feather accelerator & Choke until rpms are up then screams. If given fast throttle increase dies out Dealer installed spin on fuel filter as dealer said tank was full of crud ran fine with 90 merc prior to engine swap . Anyway VRO is disconnected and using premix, Believe it is lack of fuel pressure. unable to find part # for fuel pump rebuild. Not interested in putting back to VRO $$$ what about installing after market electric fuel pump with 4 psi max. Dealer got me for 4500 but that did include changing from single cable to hydraulic steering. I've spent a fortune on this beast and just want to go fishing I use a 7.5 kicker but need the 150 to get around and get off the water when the wind comes up. would this work and what is the reccommended fuel pressure for this carberated engine would like to get 4-5 years before I repower to something modern

How big is the boat? Unusual to only get 4000 rpm's with a 17 pitch prop. When you are running 4000 rpm, have you tried constantly priming the fuel hose bulb? This forces extra fuel into the carb bowls. If it runs better, you may have a weak fuel pump. Your fuel pump should pump 1 psi at idle, 2.5 psi at 4500.

prop simulator recommends 15 prop boat is a 19ft deep v and altitude is 7500+ ft being by myself its not possible to squeeze the primer bulb and steer it is not collapsing wife was unable to squeeze it said it was hard, WOT with the 17 was 4300 rpm I did not check the linkage adjustment to see if there was more available, after feathering it up to 1500 rpm it ran strong like it is supposed to and accelerated smoothly& as fast as I want to go 40mph limit on Colo water and it was easily faster than that 2 strokes loose a lot at altitude. in neutral it revs right up but in gear it acts fuel starved until it gets above 1500 rpm after that its fine. off idle to 1500 rpm hard to get away from dock takes quite a few attempts to move in gear stalls & dies, very common for the bass boats powered simarily to run 17 & 19 props at 4500 ft larger prop needs more HP been down that road with boats before. Had many 2 stroke bikes that were dogs at altitude even gearing way down with different sprockets goes with the altitude never had one stall out like OB though or past boats only lake large enough in CO @ 4200 ft has mussels & do not want quarantined by running it there if it was a car I'd go with a pump(master tech) 2 stroke OB is a different beast and pump cost as it is a VRO pump is ouch) VRO is disconnected & I am running premix & I can't find a kit and any boat shop is backlogged months and the youngsters don't know how to work on a carb engine elec pump is $36 if it has low speed adjustments I will check that 1st

You are probably on the right track to try a 15 pitch prop on that size boat. Would be nice to see the rpm's up close to 5500. Any engine seems doggy with a prop that has too much pitch.

3 loose by hand spark plugs that probably lost some compression I think, repair shop put spin on filter for fuel takes a lot of fuel pressure to keep filter going, also I was unaware there is a low idle jet in my carbs this was not rejetted for my altitude, some boat dealer that fixed it for over 2500 won't get my business again. 135 an hour for 2 lake tests and new impeller & starter drive. Now that I know what to fix I can do myself. As this motor is old & a little tired I will go through it completely this winter not overhaul but reman & new ignition & fuel system much cheaper than a new one. As I run a kicker 90% of the time it should last many years thank you for the input:)
