I have a force 150 on a 20ft. maxum. Finally got the boat in the water and ran out of gas. I figured out that i went 12 miles on 6 gallons of gas. The prop is a 21 and I can't find any fuel leaks from the internal tank or on the engine and no raw fuel coming out the exhaust

Re: FUEL CONSUMPTION

I can't believe you boat has a 6 gallon tank! Hard to say what your fuel rate is; it is highly dependent on rpm. At cruise you might use 8 gal per hour (3500 rpm's), at WOT (probably 5000-5500 rpm's) you'ld use 40% more. Each boat is different. The are just rough estimates of GPH. ;)

Re: FUEL CONSUMPTION

Just a rule of thumb for 2 stroke engine fuel consumption:
10% of engine hp. in gph @ wfo
Example: 150 hp engine=15 gal/hr. @wfo

c/6

Hooty

Re: FUEL CONSUMPTION

The boat has a 24 gallon tank. The story is rather long but i started out with more than six gallons but i ran out of fuel so i pumped six gallons in at the pump on the water and it was about 15 miles back to the truck and trailer. I ran out about 3 miles short. I was running wide open at about 4500-5000. Hope that is more info to maybe give a clue to what is wrong.

21Blue
Many boats in your size do not get 2 miles per gallon. About the best anyone gets is about 4 miles per gal, and we are talking Aluminum hulls pretty flat in the back and not over loaded with gear and at best crusing Speed. To increase mileage, reduce weight, clean and polish bottom, go up 2 inches of prop pitch but not if it take motor out of normal WOT range. Make sure prop is not banged up bent or nicked. Run at speed where your boat first reaches a good clean plane. When buying a new boat remember deep V hull ride nice but use more fuel. In general 4 strokes get better fuel mileage also. Lighter usually means rougher ride but better mileage. Last there is a reason most 22 to 24 foot boats have fuel tanks over 100 gallons.

Re: FUEL CONSUMPTION

Thanks for the info. I did not know that these boats drank that much. Glad to hear nothing else is wrong with this thang.

Re: FUEL CONSUMPTION

You can't figure mpg in a boat, like a automobile, because boats are so susceptible to the varibles (wind, current, load weight, hull design, etc.) That's why fuel consumption in boats is given in gph and not mpg.

c/6

Hooty
