fuel connector with 2 lines

Hey Folks:

I got an old Johnson 7.5 hp because it has wings on the hood that match my '57 LoneStar. Only trouble is that it has a fuel connector with fuel in and fuel return (I guess), so I need a connector to run fuel from the tank to the motor that uses two lines. 1) Where do you get one of those? 2) Can you get by with out the fuel return line?

Thanks so much for all the shared knowledge here!

The second line is an air line. The motor pumps air into the tank, which pressurizes it and forces fuel up to the motor through the first line.

Some people claim the tanks are abundant. Depends on where you are, I reckon. Try e-bay.

That is crazy. so i guess there is no fuel pump?

I have checked ebay, but not there. Maybe I should create a dedicated gas tank with a semi-permanent connection. I will run a want ad. Any other ideas? Maybe an "Old Boat" website?

What was the proper name for the connector? Three prong? Two line?

Big thanks.

You need to acquire a vintage dual line pressure tank...do not try to modify an existing tank...DANGER!

Check eBay!

Be advised the first one in the wild ones list is not actually a pressure tank. The owner has it listed on Ebay as a pressure tank but it is not. Be aware of the differences. And make sure you get one with the fitting. You'll pay more because that's where most of the value is. They are not available new. With any tank you get you'll need to rebuild it and the fitting. Kits are readily available. Unless of course you buy one that's been restored. Personally I'd rather do it myself but that's just me.

Another option which many choose is to convert the motor to fuel pump operation- depends on how 'original' you want to be. I can't remember on that motor if it has removable transfer port covers or not. You can tap a hole in a port cover to provide the pulses for the fuel pump, or, like the 5-1/2 hp, you can drive it off the air nipple on the reed cover, with a little modification to the rubber poppet valves on the reed plate. A rubber hose connects the pulse source to a little aftermarket pump, such as a small Mikuni, which then connects to the carb. Some feel the pressure tanks are not safe, but I've never heard of one blowing up (doesn't mean it never happened). I've converted some of my old motors simply because I didn't want to pony up for a pressure tank.
