fuel bulb

I have twin 1997 150 johnson oceanrunners. One of the fuel bulbs seems to go soft after the engine has been running. The other remains firm.I replaced the bulb but it still does it.The idle on this engine is a little higher than the other engine.I had the tech. try to lower the idle and he said that he could not lower it any more.He was at the lowest setting on the idle timing.I suspect an air leak.If the bulb is soft, and I am assuming correctly, would the leak be downstream or upstream of the bulb. And is there an easy way to check for an air leak in the fuel line?

Thanks,

2600

Re: fuel bulb

The bulb going soft after the engine has ran is normal plus it is just there to prime the fuel system when you crank it for the first time of the day. You can also check for leaks by squeezing the bulb and applying slight pressure to it and look for any fuel leaks from the tank fittings to the engine fittings and all of the fuel lines under the hood. I hope this helps you out and I am no expert but have learned from the best on this forum. Maybe somebody else the expert can add to this.

Why don't you swap engines, to see if it's the fuel line or engine. Losing pressure is a symptom of faulty fuel pump, from what I've heard.

Re: fuel bulb

That’s a bonus for having a twin setup, you can swap and change just about anything to sort out your troubles. My bulb goes soft after I’ve been running too...........

Thanks for all the replys...I will try the swap and see what happens.I think it probably is normal, but it was just a little odd that on stayed firm while the other went soft.

Thanks 2600
