Hello,
I was curious if it would be safe to combine Stabil marine formula to rid the effects of ethanol and extend fuel life with IsoHeet to remove condensation. Or will Stabil do both?
Is it also safe to mix Stabil with Seafoam? It like to clean the insde of my motor with a can. But I don't want to burn anything up or damage something.

Re: Fuel additives

Be careful regarding additives to your fuel to get rid of any problems caused by alcohol. Many of the so call additives contain various types of alcohol themselves. Only time I use a fuel additive (Stabil) is when I winterize my boat. I have a clear see through fuel water separator to keep a eye on things.

Remember, not all alcohols are created the same way or act the same in the presence of water.....

Many web sites lump all alcohols together, which is incorrect.

Take, for instance, isopropyl alcohol. You'd think it acts like ethanol, another alcohol. But it doesn't. IPA, isopropyl alcohol, is a petroleum derived alcohol, created from propene, a byproduct of oil refining and natural gas processing, and is not a fermented, plant-based alcohol like ethanol.

And while it's true that both types attract water, IPA solubilizes water in gasoline. That's why IPA is used in gas to prevent gas line freezing in cold temperature environments. Ethanol does not react the same way to water (phase separation, etc.).

If it aint broke, don't fix it!

If you are not having an engine problem related to carbon build-up, don't clean the engine. You may think a clean engine will run better but in reality all the gain in performance will be in your head--the placebo effect.

While carbon build-up on the rings can affect (reduce) compression and in a case of low compression, this would be the thing to try, It can also cause more problems than it cures--up to needing a complete rebuild.

I advise searching other posts on this subject in the general engine forum. See how high feelings are both for and against use of additives. People are almost rabid on both sides. You would think it is a religion.

Homeopathy for boats?

I ran an additive in my boat for a couple of seasons. A couple of mechanics said not to bother. I can?t say I have noticed any difference in the way the motor runs since I stopped using it. The only difference I?ve noticed is about 45 cents less a gallon.

Re: Fuel additives

I have been using Xtreme Fuel Treatment for a few years in my truck & boat and am happy with it. It will take care of any water in the fuel system as well as rust & help with lubrication. Let me know if you want more info on it.
