I am recomissioning my boat with a ProV150. I hasn't been run for over a year. Is there something I can use to clean out the fuel system (a fuel additive, etc.)? I'd like to make sure all the gum, resedue, etc. is cleaned out as much as possible (without a full service tune up, which costs a arm and at least 2/3 leg here).

Will the oil go bad too? Is there anything I need to do to the oil or injection system (other than to ensure it's working correctly, which I will do).

I will change out the lower unit oil, replace plugs (see prev. post) and check water pump, etc. Anything else I should make sure to do?

Thanks!

------------------
Brian Atkins

Re: Fuel additive for Yamaha ProV150?

Brian...

A lot depends on the condition of the engine and the manner in which she was put to bed a year or so ago. Best thing I can suggest is start with fresh fuel. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate using the same oil...but other's might suggest changing it out as well. Either way, go ahead and see if she'll light up. It's possible you won't have to do anything else to the fuel system. I've never been in favor of introducing a lot of additives etc....unless you have good reason to. Hey, if it ain't broken...don't fix it!

Do you know how old the raw water pump is? That's always good PM to replace if it's a few years old...

Good luck! Walt
