Greetings fellow IBOATS members. Need some help. I have recently relocated to FT Worth TX due to a lil ***** named Katrina. Where are there good places locally for fishing and boating?? Any help would greatly be appreciated. I have seen Lake FT Worth, I am actually stationed in the Navy at that lake, but have read the signs about PCB's.

Thanks

Tallman

Ahoy, Tallman.

I live about 60 miles from Lake Worth (west) but have never fished it.

Joe Pool is a nice boating/fishing lake if you can handle crowds and jetskis. I lived on Lake Grapevine 30 years ago. It was a fine fishing lake then.

I am exclusively a fisherman who doesn't like crowds. My favorite fishing lakes are Lake Mineral Wells State Park and the best kept secret in Texas, Lake Palo Pinto.

Other off-the-beaten-path lakes are Bridgeport and Possum Kingdom. Both beautiful places.

Nate should check in here soon. He is also a recent relocator who is exploring the possibilities.

Good luck. :)

tis a bit of a haul but I spent many a day and night fishing lake whitney, low crowds, plenty of state parks, lots of BLM lands to hunt and explore. some really nice ramps. a word of caution if you decide to fish behind the dam, DO NOT park your vehilce below the high water marker. if you hear 3 horn blats be aware the water level is gonna change about 5-7 ft very soon and the current will be staggering. other than that the fishing behind the dam is about the best I ever did.

Welcome to the metroplex, tallman...I've just noticed this thread.

Any of the in-town metroplex lakes will be crowded with pleasure boats & jetskis during the spring & summer but now through memorial day is not a problem. I enjoy fishing on Joe Pool, Lewisville, Ray Hubbard, Grapevine, all good. Within 100 miles Cedar Creek & Richland Chambers are both excellent lakes, less crowded in the summer. A little farther, Texoma has excellent striped bass fishing, but you'll need a big boat.

If you're after big bass Lake Fork is not too far.

Near Waco, Tradinghouse and Fairfield are stocked with Redfish, haven't been yet but I'm anxious to give it a try. Fairfield & Monticello are both powerplant lakes with year round water temps in the 70's.

www.texasfishingforum.com is a pretty good resource, also check out www.tpwd.state.tx.us
