I have a 1973 Slickcraft ss194.
My guess is that it has been repowered as it originally came with one of four engines, the max being a 225hp.
With a 23p aluminum prop, WOT 5200 rpm's = GPS 50-54mph
With a 17p aluminum prop, WOT 5200 rpm's = GPS 42mph
That isn't a typo with the rpm's.
After hours of looking for that little ID plate with the serial number, I found a casting stamp: 41 GM 3970010 which only tells me that it is a 350.
Today, I focused on the outdrive and was finally able to read what I thought was the serial number. Turns out it was just the serial number of the gimbal? housing.
After more research, I was convinced that it was an alpha one due to the "A" stamped on the prop shaft. I also found a website that said the serial number would be under the mercruiser sticker on the port side of the outdrive.
Finally - S/N L A432065 with a big D. More internet research = ???
Bond-o thought that I might have the wrong outdrive gear ratio.
To test that theory, I need to know what the original should be, and test by turning the engine over manually until the prop has completed one full rev.
Any help with identifying this outdrive?
