Frozen steering in tilt tube

My cable steering system was frozen on my Honda 90. Purchased a BayStar system as a replacement. I cannot budge the link arm in the tilt tube and in a act of stupidity removed the tilt tube nut and whacked the link-arm and drove the tilt tube part way out of the port side transom bracket. Fortunately I stopped when I realized the motor was going to fall off the boat if I continued.
Ordered a new tilt tube figuring this one is hopelessly corroded. Any advice on replacing the tub without dropping the motor on my foot? I was thinking of renting an automobile engine hoist.

Good catch! that would majorly suck to drop that whole thing off!

I just had my 75 off the boat yesterday (repowering up to a 115). You'll need to borrow, beg, or buy a "lifting eye". This screws into the threaded hole on top of the flywheel. Using this, you can lift the motor straight up - much easier and safer than trying to use straps or something.

You might just be able to back it into the garage and hook a come-along into the garage trusses. Or under a strong tree would work too. Check the capacity of the come-along. My 75 weighs about +/- 400 lbs.

Good luck, mark
