I have a 2000 40hp Mercury, and the fly wheel is frozen. Any suggestions? What is involved in getting it running again? Thanks for any help. cm

Will the motor turn over at all? Was this a result of overheating, lack of oil, or was it stored improperly?

what caused it to freeze up? did it happen while it was running? or just setting?

It sat for about a month and a half on the mooring. cm

kind of odd for one to freeze up in a month and a half pull the plugs and see if she will turn over then if not turn her carb down and shoot the penetrating oil in the cyls and let it set for a couple days

Drop the lower unit and then see if the flywheel will turn. If so its in the top end, If not its your lower unit thats the problem.

Um, yeah it's fine. I used penetrating oil in the cylinders and let it soak. After 2 days or so, everything freed up. After it broke free I soaked it with marvel mystery oil, and continued spinning the flywheel. I purged the oil, and tried starting it. It started right up. Thanks for all the extravegant ideas. cm
